Call for Applications for Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU-Africa for the September (Fall) 2023 Intake

Scholarship Overview

United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa) has partnered with the Mastercard Foundation in its global Scholars Program. This initiative will offer academically talented youth from Africa facing financial, gender, displacement, or disability constraints an opportunity to access world class university education.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU-Africa will provide full-cost scholarships to young Africans who are first-time undergraduate degree-seeking applicants. By completion of their studies, scholars will be required to lead changes in their communities and contribute to meaningful transformation across the continent, having been equipped with internationally recognized and locally applicable qualifications.

The scholarship targets African youth who are either, Young Women, Refugees/ displaced Youth, Persons with Disability and Young Men with the following qualities;

  • Academic talent
  • Commitment to giving back to their communities
  • Leadership potential

**Priority shall be given to registered Refugees/Displaced youth and Persons with Disability.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship applicants must;

  1. Be 29 years and below at the time of application
  2. Meet the minimum university entry grade of a C+ and above or its equivalent as set by the Kenya Commission for University Education. Applicants interested in courses in the school of Pharmacy and Health sciences must have a mean grade of B- or its equivalent and at least a C+ or B- in the cluster subjects  of  English,  Mathematics,  Biology  and  Chemistry.  International  applicants  must  meet  the equivalent.
  3. Must be interested in any of the approved 13 undergraduate degree programs for the Scholars Program at USIU-Africa as follows:

School of Science and Technology (SST)

  1. Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Technology
  2. Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Technology
  3. Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering
  4. Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Analytics

School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (SPHS)

School of Communication, Cinematic and Creative Arts (SCCCA)

  1. Interested applicants can fill in the application form attached in this call for applications. The same can also be downloaded from the website on this link: https://www.usiu.ac.ke/mastercard-foundation-scholars-program . Application forms can also be picked from the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program office at the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension, 2nd floor.
  2. Before filling in the application form, please read through all the instructions and required information.
  3. Submit complete application together with other supporting documents required by email ensuring that the scanned copy of the scholarship application form and all the required documents are scanned in PDF format. Clearly name while sending with your name and nationality as the email subject to: mcfsp-applications@usiu.ac.ke or drop your application at the Scholars Program Office, located in the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension building at USIU- Africa.

African Leadership University

African Leadership University [ALU – Rwanda] is a university located in Kigali, Rwanda. It is accredited by the Higher Education Council of Rwanda. The undergraduate campus opened in September 2017, with 270 students, ALU Rwanda expanded to Kigali’s new Innovation City, where a permanent campus was completed in 2020. It is expected that over the next decade, companies all over the world will continue to experience technology talent shortages. This is resulting in an ever-increasing demand for tech talent across the globe and especially from Africa. But employers are looking for more than just degrees. They are looking for exceptional, well-rounded talent that has the right combination of technical and professional skills.

The programme is delivered in partnership with the Holberton Software  Engineering School. BSE students will complete 3 Foundation sprints (within their specialization) to build their knowledge on computer science and web development, before choosing one of four specialization areas: AR/VR,  Machine Learning, Low level & Algorithm and Full-Stack Web Development. Students  complete their specialization with an open-ended capstone project in their area of interest.

Admission Requirements

General eligibility requirements for ALU Rwanda:

  • Completion of a final national secondary school exam and graduation from secondary school with a certificate of secondary education on an A Level or equivalent;
  • Having taken a minimum of 2 A-Level subjects or equivalent with a minimum overall grade average of a C;
  • Evidence of having attained sufficient English language proficiency
  • Programme eligibility requirements for the Bachelor of Software Engineering
  • The programme eligibility requirements require prospective students to have an A Level (or equivalent) in Mathematics or Computer Science with a minimum C grade. In the absence of the required grades in Mathematics or Computer Science, an A Level (or equivalent) in a related scientific or technical subject (such as Physics, Engineering etc) with a minimum B grade shall be considered.
  • Individuals seeking to enroll onto the Software Engineering programme will be asked to meet additional requirements such as taking and passing a test.
  • The minimum general eligibility requirements must be met before programme specific requirements will be considered.

The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) is a university that was founded with the goal of training a new generation of global health leaders and advancing global health delivery. CALL FOR APPLICATION FOR PUBLIC, PRIVATE AND INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS TO STUDY AT RWANDA POLYTECHNIC ACADEMIC YEAR 2022-2023

Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) would like to inform all applicants who wish to study in its colleges (IPRC Kigali, IPRC Ngoma, IPRC Karongi, IPRC Huye, IPRC Tumba, IPRC Musanze, IPRC Gishari and IPRC Kitabi) as Government sponsored and self-sponsored in the Academic Year 2022-2023, that the online application process will be open from 23rd December, 2022 to 6th January, 2023 through the link: https://mis.rp.ac.rw/applications

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Having:

a. Senior 6 Certificate/results slip or equivalence for international applicants provided by the comptent authority in Rwanda (NESA),
b. At least two relevant principal passes in core modules/subjects related to the programs applied for in IPRCS,

  1. Copy of National ID or a valid passport for international applicants
  2. The applicant must have a valid email and password.
  3. Payment of a non-refundable application fee of 5000RWF
  • The selection and admission of applicants will be based on their academic performance.
  • Names on the certificate, results slip, or equivalent must match the Rwandan national identification (ID) or passport for foreign applicants.
  • All applicants who wish to study at RP will do so on a full-time (day) basis.
  • The applicant, if accepted, will be admitted to study what she/he applied for at any of the RP colleges, after checking if he/she has two principal passes related to that program.
  • After successful application, a confirmation email with your application will be sent to your email address.
  • The steps for application, the programs to which you will apply for, and the requirements for joining them, are detailed in the annex.
